Out and About: Fainting Goat, Wallingford

I'm not big on frozen treats, so I can't tell you if this is the best gelato in the world - however, I can tell you that the gelato at Fainting Goat is delicious.

Gelato in general has a lower butterfat content than traditional ice cream products.  It's made in the same way as ice cream, but has a softer texture than it's American counterpart.

Fainting Goat is located in Wallingford right on the main strip.  It's small with about 5 tables for sit down eating.  Flavors are typical of a gelaterie (a place where gelato is made).  There's the always present vanilla bean, chocoalte, but other options like mango, pistachio, coffee and banana.  You'll also find cakes and espresso drinks at this small mom and pop establishment.

Behind the counter you'll find a husband and wife team happily scooping their frozen creations for you.  They're open late - perfect for an evening treat.  Samples are free for the asking.

Out and About: Boehms Candies, Issaquah WA

As one of the Seattle areas oldest confectioners, Boehms Candies is an Issaquah icon.  Located just off I-90 in Issaquah, this sweet spot is sure to delight children of all ages.

When you pull into their parking lot, you'll take notice of the chalet design and you'll almost forget where you are.

Boehm's Candies offer a variety of over 150 chocolates and candies.  There is something to surely please any sweet tooth.  They are wonderful, and Mr. Boehm would say, "As High As The Alps On Quality". On special occasions, you'll find chocolates molded from unique sculptures including golf clubs, neck ties and other items to made your speicall occasion "sweet".

On a special weather day (e.g., when the sun is shining and the temp is over 80 degrees....which is rare in the Seattle area) it's a treat to head to Boehm's and have their hand dipped vanilla ice cream bar. It starts with vanilla ice cream, then it's dipped into their rich semi-sweet chocolate. It just takes a few minutes to harden and it's oh so good. None of the supermarket brands come even close to this delectable frozen treat.

On a rare spring afternoon, my husband and I escaped for this frozen goodness. He plain, I with nuts (I'm going to skip them next time). We sat in their adjacent garden and enjoyed our little treat.

Great for kids.  Great for adults.  Enjoy!

Read My Mind - Molly Moon's Booking Signing Party

Molly Moon's new cookbook is out!  She recently hosted a book signing party - complete with entertainment and lots of ice cream.  We got there right at 8pm, but by 9pm the place was packed.  Lots of food, drinks and of course, ice cream complete with make-your-own sundae toppings galore.

Molly Moon, the queen of ice cream, has really made her mark here in Seattle.  She currently has five locations and a roving ice cream truck.  For eastsiders, you'll find the truck at various markets (see schedule once the markets open).  Using locally sourced ingredients she creates flavors you can't buy at your grocery store.  My favorite is honey lavender.  The scout mint and Stumptown coffee flavors are popular in our household.

Support local business!  Have a scoop (or two) of Molly Moon's ice cream.
You can read more about her in the Seattle Times.
